QR CODES – Part 1: What they are and how to use them.
To start, there was a study completed I believe back in 2011 that showed 97% of people didn’t know what a QR Code was and when they saw one, they didn’t know what they were supposed to do. 97%. That number is staggering. There hasn’t been a study that we’ve found since showing the growth in this area.
My point with saying this is that when using a QR Code, make it obvious what you want people to do. Simply placing it on a flyer or postcard is not enough. As cheesy as it is to say, you need to place some text on there saying something along the lines of “Scan with Smart Phone” or “Scan to view our Site” or “View our Facebook page here…” Something that will tell people what they need to do.
You need to realize QR codes are only “scan-able” with smart phones. There are still several people just getting a smart phone for the first time. They won’t necessarily know that there is a bar code app they need to download to their smart phone that will scan some weird looking box that looks like a hieroglyphic and that will then take them to some sort of a website. Just like your website, you need to convey to people what you want them to do.
QR Codes are widely misused. Make sure you use yours correctly.
Current clients need only ask and we will create a QR Code for you, for free.
