If you’re told otherwise…you’re being lied to. They are literally pointless.
Google’s own leader Matt Cutts states this repeatedly. Tags and meta data used to have value, but no longer have a need. This is more in-depth, however for those of you who have been sold on this being an important factor, it’s not.
Google is about reading the information on your web page, not whats hidden in the code about the page or tag for a blog post. Again, as always, the new way of SEO is what is literally written on your web pages, everything else matters very little. Maintain that focus and dedicate the time to create new, fresh content.
